Dorothy O. Preston Basinger (84), of Conway, went to her heavenly home on July 8th, 2010. Born in Smackover, AR on October 30th, 1925 to Jesse V. Preston and Theodocia Perdue Preston. Dorothy met the love of her life, James Frank Basinger Jr., in April of 1946. They were married on May 7th of that same year and remained completely devoted to each other for the next 63 years until James death in July of last year. Dorothy took pride in being a devoted wife, mother, and "Nanny" to all of her family and friends. Dorothy's home was the center of all family gatherings and events where she took pride in making sure everyone was comfortable, entertained, and well fed. Cooking for her family and friends was her passion as well as growing and canning her own fruits and vegetables. Nothing delighted Dorothy more than having family around while calling the Hogs during fall football games. Dorothy's children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will forever miss the way she made everyday seem special.
Her husband James F. Basinger, Jr., her above listed parents; a brother Jesse Arlie Preston and a great grandson Tyler Scott Haynes preceded her in death.
Those left to mourn her passing are: her son Del C. Basinger of Orange, TX; a daughter D. Sharon Lea of Conway, grandsons: Michael S. Haynes, William P. (Bill) Haynes, Bobby L. Haynes III all of Conway and Bryce Basinger of Orange, TX and Brandon Basinger of Beaumont, TX, Chase Basinger of Lumberton, TX and Cody Basinger of Warren, TX; granddaughters: Olivia Basinger and Holly Williams both of Orange, TX; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a brother Clyde N. Preston of Houma, LA and a sister Wilma (Billie) Potvio of Lewisville, AR.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tues. July 13th at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway with Bro. Steve Wallace officiating. Interment will be at Crestlawn Memorial Park with Del Basinger, Brandon Basinger, Bryce Basinger, Michael S. Haynes, William P. Haynes and Bobby L. Haynes III serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Mon. July 12th at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway.
