Edward Joseph Adams, 84, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2010 at Cape Regional Medical Center. Born in Philadelphia to the late Clarence and Helen Adams, he had lived here for 23 years. He worked at Sears Roebuck in Philadelphia and was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church. Mr. Adams was a Navy Veteran of World War II. He served on the USS Whitehurst and was recognized as a hero. A Japanese plane hit the ship and he put out the fire, saving the lives of the people on the ship. President Truman sent a letter to him acknowledging his actions. His name was added to the World War II Monument. Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat; his daughters, Donna Alullo and Carol Bakley; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Memorial Mass will be said on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery.
