Gene Autry Nichols, 72, of Callaway, passed away July 5, 2010. He was preceded in death by his father, Jessie W. Nichols, and brother, Jessie J. Nichols. He is survived by his mother, Ethel Hodges Nichols; three sisters; a special sister, Iris Carr of Copper Hill, Linda and Woody Martin of Wilmington, N.C., Ann and Jerry Wray of Salisbury N.C.; two brothers, Franklin R. and Gladys Nichols of Callaway and Terry L. Nichols of Copper Hill; a very special friend, JoAnne McNiel of Callaway; three daughters, Kathy L. Nichols and Starr Hill of Germanton, N.C., Robin and Thomas Ranger of Roanoke, Sharon and Steve Bower of Roanoke; one son, Larry Gene Nichols of Roanoke; one grandchild, Lauren Barbour of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home in Floyd with the Rev. Gene Craighead officiating with interment in the Adney Gap Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home in Floyd.
