Moses was born May 28, 1833 to Henry and Elizabeth "Annie" (Sellers) Beaver in Hamilton County, Indiana. He married Elizabeth Maxwell on August 22, 1864 at the age of 31 years. He was a farmer in Hamilton County. Moses and Elizabeth had two sons, Edy and Basil, both who died in infancy before 1868. They raised a friend's son, Charles Cecil, who had been dropped off at their home by his father. When their son Emil was born in 1885, Charles was a big brother to him. Moses was 52 years old when his only surviving child was born. When little Emil was an infant, he fell down a spiral staircase and broke his back. Moses rode by horseback to Indianapolis to get a doctor for his son. The toddler was put in a plaster cast which caused his spine to grow crooked.
Moses died at the age of 53. His son was only 11 months old when he died. There is no death record on file for Moses and his obituary has not been located. He was buried in the Beaver (Highland) Cemetery in Noblesville, Indiana. Great grandson John T. Beaver copied the tombstone epitaph on 7 July 1973 when he and his wife cleared brush at Highland Cemetery, near Fischers, Indiana. The elements have since weathered the stone and it can no longer be read.

"A light is from our household gone
A voice we loved is stilled
A place is vacant at our home
Which never can be filled."
