After James Thomas Elmore died (Adaline's "Addie" husband) William N. Elmore (Billy), her father-in-law, tried to take her land away from her. Her father W.E. Bruce kept this from happening. The lands that N.W. Elmore tried to take away was historically marked in 1978, and titled as the Joseph Dennis Lands.

The following profile of ADELINE ELIZABETH BRUCE ELMORE (1879-1966) was prepared by Mrs. Polly Peaks Elmore (27 Jan 1985).
Adeline (Addie) Bruce was born in Bell County, south of Killeen, Bell Co TX on 18 Feb 1879. Addie was the daughter of Josephine McBryde and William (Billy) Eugene Bruce. She married James Thomas Elmore and they had four children. One month and 10 days after the Elmore's last child was born Addie's husband died of typhoid fever. Addie Elmore never re-married.
After the death of her husband, Addie moved her young family from the city of Killeen to a farm south of Killeen which is presently known as Elmore Ranch or the Joseph Dennis Lands. Addie farmed by day and sewed for her family at night. Addie was the only Elmore heir that held onto the lands that was divided between the Elmore children when (Sally) T. Dennis Elmore Died on 3 Sep 1889.
Addie Elmore raised her young family on the Ranch with the help of her brother Mance Bruce. Together they cultivated the acreage in cotton and corn. Mance Bruce lived with Addie and helped her farm and raise her four children until Forest Elmore was 13 year old. At 13 Forest began to farm the land and continued farming that land until his death on 4 Jan 1957.
Mrs. Elmore was an active and respected member in the Reeces Creek Community to include the business men in Killeen. She supported the Reeces Creek School and the Methodist Church in Nolanville, TX. The School continued until it was consolidated with the Killeen Independent School District. In spite of Addie Elmore being widowed, the community called upon her to contribute financially to the support of her church and the children's school.
Addies children are direct descendants of Mancel T. McBryde and Joseph Dennis who were early pioneers who settled in Bell County. Joseph Dennis was the Chairman who was instrumental in carving Bell County out of Milam County.
Adeline Elizabeth Bruce Elmore Died 30 Jan 1966 and is buried next her husband in the Killeen City Cemetery.
