During the summer of 1918 they lived in Cedar Falls, Iowa, coming to Fort Madison in September of the same year. Mr. and Mrs. Billman celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Nov. 22th, 1918. Mrs. Billman passed away the following December. Since then he and his son Roy have made their home with the daughter, Mrs. Maxwell. Mr. Billman had been failing since last September.
He is survived by four sons and one daughter: Will of Alberta, Canada, George, Allison, Roy and Mrs. Maxwell of Fort Madison. Also twelve grandchildren and Mrs. L. D. Pierson of Anita, Iowa, who made her home in the family for ten years, besides a host of friends and other relatives. One son, Clyde, died in infancy. The deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was a kind and loving husband and father, always ready to assist anyone who was in need. His hospitality will linger long in the memory of those who knew him.
He served the public in many ways. Being trustee of Pleasant Ridge township for several terms, may of West Point four years; member of the West Point school board for a number of years. He was an elder in the West Point Presbyterian church for half a century and a member since 1866. The church has lost one of its most faithful members for it never called in vain to him for any help that he was able to give.
The funeral service was held in the West Point Presbyterian church Tuesday, February 1, at 11 a.m. in charge of the pastor, Rev. A. C. Grafton. The Rev. Warren F. Goff, pastor of the Union Presbyterian church, Fort Madison, preached a short funeral sermon from Isa. 38:12. Interment took place in the family lot in the West Point cemetery.
