Clarence "Sonny" Carroll, 58, of rural Farber, passed away unexpectedly at 1:16 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel, 500 S. Main Street in Vandalia, with Rev. Don Amelung officiating. Music was provided by Leatha Perkins, Donna Watson and Stacey Hamlett. Interment was in Farber Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lyle Morris, Ronnie Hays, Richard See, Danny Burnett, Jim Kuda, Jeff Ellis, Jerry Hoagland, Donnie Cummins, John Hodde, Byren Baskett, Terry Holt, George Shaw, Jim Williams, Larry Holt, Butch Jennings, Marvin Yager and Allan Kraft. In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to Multiple Sclerosis Society, Mid-America Chapter, 7611 State Line Road, Suite 100, Kansas City, MO 67207.

Born Aug. 6, 1951, in Vandalia, he was the son of Clarence Henry Carroll Sr. and Alpha Mae (Jennings) Carroll. He grew up in Bowling Green and was a 1969 Bowling Green High School graduate. On Aug. 21, 1971, he married Gayle Sue Eisele in Farber, where he lived his adult life. He went to work shortly after high school at Harbison-Walker Refractories in Vandalia, where he worked in the maintenance department. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, raising money for Multiple Sclerosis Society, mowing and especially spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Gayle Carroll of rural Farber; one son, Joey D. Carroll and his wife, Jessica, of Washington, Iowa; one daughter, Tracey S. Coffman and her husband, Jason, of Marshall; father, Clarence H. Carroll Sr. of Bowling Green; father- and mother-in-law, Deane and Susie Eisele of rural Farber; one brother, Raymond L. Carroll and his wife, Becky, of Bowling Green; one sister, Joyce M. Spegal and her husband, Noahie, of Bowling Green; four grandchildren, Dillon and Daisy Carroll and Aiden and Allie Coffman; two brothers-in-law, Tom Eisele and his wife, Glenda, of Havana, Ill., and Ken Eisele and his wife, Barb, of Perry; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alpha Mae Carroll, and three sisters, Beulah Jean Carroll, who died in infancy, Mary K. Ince and Juanita M. Carroll
