Gertrude Elvira GARDNER Burgess, 86, of Glendale, died Saturday (April 24) in a Glendale Hospital.

She was b. 12 Apr 1885 in Somerset, Pennsylvania, and came to Tropico (So. Glendale) in 1920. The Burgess Family had lived in the same house at #1203 So. Orange Street, in Glendale for 51 years.

Her husband Jame Franklin Burgess and she ran Jim's Resturant, on So. Brand Blvd, and in 1945, they opened another one in the Jackson Bowling Alley, on Glendale Avenue.

Her husband, James F. Burgess, predeceased her in 1952. She is survived by a son, Albert Homer Burgess of Burbank; a daughter Betty K. BURGESS Crawford of Burbank; a sister, Margaret GARDNER Walters of Pennsylvania.

A second son, PFC James Walter "Jimmy" Burgess (1925-1944), was KIA in the South Pacific (BATTLE of SAIPAN) during World War II.

Interment was in FOREST LAWN MEMORIAL PARK, in Glendale.

Services were arranged by L. G. Scovern & Son Mortuary. Funeral services were at 1 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Recessional, Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
