Henry enlisted as a Private in Co. B, 29th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment on Aug. 19, 1861, at the age of 19. He was promoted to full Corporal on Dec. 10, 1863, and Full Sergeant on Mar. 1, 1865. He was wounded in the ankle at the Battle of Cedar Mountain, VA, Aug. 9, 1862. He also served in some 17 other battles, including Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, and was mustered out of service with his company July 13, 1865, at Louisville, Kentucky. After the war, he was a carpenter, and a member of the Brainard Post G.A.R.
