OBITUARY
Abbott— Alma P.-Billings, was born April 3, 1835, at Bethel, Windsor County, Vermont, and at the place of her birth was united in marriage to Wm. N. Abbott, July 24, 1853, to this union were born five children, two died in infancy, John G. died at the age of nineteen, and Elizabeth M. died in 1901. She leaves, her aged life companion, one son, William G. of Gillespie, Illinois, and four grand-children James F. and May Esmah Jones, of Lamoni, Iowa, and John H. and Alice Gimlin, of Fairview, Illinois, and one great-grand-child, the little son of our late Mayor.

After marriage they moved westward and located at Fairview, Ill., where they resided for some four years and next made their home in Pocahontas County, Iowa, after the lapse of some three years returned to their old Illinois residence, six years later they came to Decatur County, about forty years ago, living consecutively at Leon, Davis City, and Lamoni, at the latter place about twenty years where she peacefully passed away, January 11, 1917, at the advanced age of 81 years, 9 months and 8 days.

She was baptized into the Saints Church October 9, 1882, at Davis City by Elder Morris T. Short. Funeral services at the residence in charge of Elder Frederick A. Smith, and sermon by Robert M. Elvin, from John II: 25. The large attendance and beautiful flowers were in evidence of the respect in which the departed was held in this community. Interment in Rose Hill.
