STOCKTON – The 21-year-old woman fatally shot Sunday morning in north Stockton was Jessica Alvarez, the Stockton Police Department reported Tuesday.
Officer Pete Smith, a police spokesman, said investigators have been trying to piece together the chain of events that led to Alvarez's slaying but have confirmed little.
Alvarez was found suffering from gunshot wounds around 1 a.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Montauban Avenue. Smith said she had been having some kind of party or gathering at her house, and investigators tentatively believe there may have been a confrontation with a group of people not attending the party.
"They really don't have a whole lot," Smith said. "It's still a very active investigation."
Alvarez was taken from Montauban Avenue to St. Joseph's Medical Center, where she later died.

No arrests were ever made in her case.
