Unlike his older brother Rev. William Comb Requa, James was not involved with the Harmony Mission. According to "The Family of Requa" pub. in 1898, by June 1840 James and family arrived from Fort Wayne, Indiana to what became Bates County, MO. There he appears in the census of Harmony Twsp., Van Buren County, MO. Harmony Mission township (the southern end of Van Buren County became Bates County, MO in 1841).
