Margie was born September 6, 1921 in Lamar County, Texas to the late Luther E. and Lila M. (Lentz) Mason. She attended North Texas State College and The University of Texas in Austin. Marjorie moved to Graham in 1946 to begin her teaching career. She met Burton L. Kirtley at a Rotary Club function and they were later married August 5, 1946 in Paris, Texas. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1989. Margie was a school teacher in Graham for over twenty-five years. She was a member of Texas State Teachers Association, CLSC, Graham Community Concert Association, and First United Methodist Church, where she was active in United Methodist Women, Good Samaritans, and Stephen Ministers. Margie made flower bouquets weekly from the Sunday morning service flowers that were delivered to shut-ins.
Survivors include; sister, Dorothy McClure of Paris, Texas; brother, James R. Mason of Waxahachie; niece; Jean Blackwell and husband Garry; nephew; Jim Mason and wife Martha.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Flower Fund, First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 88, Graham, Texas 76450.
