"PANSY E. CHAPMAN
Pansy E. Chapman, 93 died Sunday, October 3, 1999 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
She was born September 5, 1906 in Decatur County to Delaware and Elsie Englehart Decker. She grew up in the Prairie Chapel Community in Decatur County and received her elementary education at Traer and Cedar Bluffs, Kan.
The family moved to Orleans where she graduated as valedictorian from the Orleans high school class of 1924. She began working as a bookkeeper for the Orleans Creamery.
On July 13, 1925 she married Verne H. Mace Jr. He preceded her in death. She continued as a bookkeeper, working for the Mead Ordinance Plant at Mead during World War II. She returned to North Platte in 1944 where she was employed by Hansen and Fuenning Accounting for 15 years.
On March 17, 1955 she married Rufus Gill Chapman. He died June 28, 1985.
She retired from bookkeeping in 1974 following 46 years of service. She moved to the McCook Townhouse in 1988 and willow Ridge in 1994.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, one brother, Zenas Decker and two sisters Frances Blackwell and Lulu Hunt.
Survivors include one son, Howard Mace Jr. and wife, Joan Mace of McCook; one sister, Della Merrill of Wauneta; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday, 10:30 am at Herrmann memorial Chapel with the Rev. Phil Ewer officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery in Oberlin.
Friends may call at the funeral home.
Memorials are being accepted in her name.
