Hale W. Hunt, 94, formerly of Greenwood, Clark County, died at his home in La Crosse, Thursday, Feb. 7, 1991. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 9, 1991, at St. Luke s United Methodist Church, La Crosse. Rev. William McBride officiated.
Hale W. Hunt was born April 5, 1896, in Greenwood, to Henry W. and Mary (nee Joscelyn) Hunt. He married Freda Roecker Dec. 26, 1925, in West Bend. He served in the 127th Infantry, 32nd Division during WW I. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 52, member of VFW Post 1530 and served on the Draft Board during WW II. After graduating from Marquette University, he practiced dentistry in La Crosse for 54 years. He was a past president of the La Crosse Dental Society, a member of the Board of Health for many years and was also a member of the Salvation Army Board. He had been a semi-pro baseball player in the Wisconsin State League (Fond du Lac).
Survivors include his wife a daughter, Mary (Mrs. Bud) Thompson, Chilton four grandchildren three great-grandchildren a sister-in-law, Thecla Roecker, La Crosse and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.
Sletten McKee Hanson Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Distinguished Alumni Award

Dr. Hale W. Hunt, LaCrosse, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award at the
Greenwood Community High School graduation program Tuesday, May 29th. This
award, created by the high school and the Alumni Association, is being presented this year
for the first time and is planned as an annual award.
Dr. Hunt was born in Greenwood in 1896 on Easter Sunday. He attended grade
school and high school in Greenwood and graduated with the class of 1914, a class of four
boys and ten girls. While in high school, he was active in athletics and played in the city
band.
After graduating from high school, he worked as a clerk in the post office for a
year and then with the Blodgett Company, Marshfield which later became the Roddis
Lumber Company. He enlisted in the army in 1917 and went to France with the 22nd
Division.
After returning from France in 1919, he entered the University of Wisconsin and
later transferred to Marquette University where he graduated from the School of
Dentistry, graduating form the first four-year course in that profession at that school.
Dr. Hunt began his dental practice at LaCrosse during the summer of 1924 and
has continued in the same location since that time. He has been active In variety of civic
programs. He has served about 25 years on the City Board of Health, thirty years on the
Salvation Army advisory board, and was a member of the draft board during World War
II. He is past president of the LaCrosse District Dental Society, Past Commander of the
American Legion Post and made a trip to France with a picked American Legion Band in
1927, Past President of the LaCrosse Business Men's Club and has been active in church
work.
Dr. Hunt is a sports fan, having played semi-professional baseball with Mayville,
West Bend and Fond du Lac. He likes to fish trout, collect stamps and work in his rose
garden.
