Freda L. Hunt
Freda L. Hunt, 97, of Bethany Home on Cass St. in La Crosse, died on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. She was born on May 29, 1901, in West Bend, daughter of the late Alphonse and Theckla Roeckel. She married Dr. Hale W. Hunt on Dec. 26, 1925, in West Bend. She and her husband celebrated 65 years of marriage in 1990, he preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1991. Prior to her marriage she worked as secretary for the B.C. Ziegler Co. in West Bend. Freda lived all of her married life in La Crosse until July of 1998 when she moved to Chilton to be closer to family. She was a member of St. Luke Methodist Church in La Crosse, where she was a sunday school teacher, a choir member, and held several officer positions in the Elizabeth Kinley Circle. She was honored by the state of Wisconsin Methodist Women for her devotion and work with missions. She was also a member of the La Crosse Dental Wives Association, the American Legion Auxiliary, and a lifetime member of the Eastern Star. She also served on the board of the La Crosse Home for Children, and was honored by the YWCA for her many years of service on the board.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Bud Thompson of Chilton; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Thompson and Jane of Seattle, Wash., Robert (Mary Jane) Thompson of Highland Park, Ill., Dr. David (Kim) Thompson of De Pere, Thomas (Rene) Thompson of Green Bay; seven great-grandchildren, Ryan and Cristina Thompson, Emily and Sarah Thompson, Nicholas, Maxwell and Alison Thompson. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at St. Luke Methodist Church in La Crosse, with the Rev. Wesley White officiating. Entombment will be in the Oak Grove Mausoleum in La Crosse. A reception for relatives and friends will be held at the church following the services. A memorial fund has been established in the name of Freda Hunt.
