ATHOL -- June L. (Soule) McKenna, 79, of 379 Royalston Rd., died June 2, 2010 at the Athol Memorial Hospital.

June was born in Newburyport, Mass., Dec. 16, 1930, the daughter of Louis E. and Alice (Smith) Soule.

She grew up in Orange, graduating from Orange High School in 1948, living in Warwick from 1949 to 1994 before moving to Athol.

She was a charter member of the Women's Auxiliary to the Warwick Fire Department, member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 172 and a member of A.A.R.P. - Mt. Grace Chapter.

Her husband Edward McKenna died June 11, 1992.

June leaves a son, Ronald W. Smart of Warwick and a daughter Darlene Buraczynski of Hinsdale, N.H.; four grandchildren, Andy Smart, Shane Smart, Amanda Sweetser and Michele Barnett; two great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter.
A graveside service will be held at Warwick Center Cemetery, Saturday, June 12, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Adam Randazzo of the Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Athol Animal Shelter, "for the care of animals," c/o Athol Police Dept., 480 Exchange St., Athol, Mass. 01331.
