Mr. Helms was born on April 23, 1931 in Rochelle. He was son of the late Harvey A. Helms and Clara Mae Killiebrew Helms. He was a member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church and was a Mechanic at Griffin Lumber Company. He served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include: wife-Barbara Helms of Abbeville, son-Wayne Helms of Abbeville, step-son-Andrew VanHorn of Savannah, Michael VanHorn of Bluffton, S. C., step-daughters-Julia Nutt of Rochelle and Linda Brasher of Birmingham, Alabama, 10-grandchildren and 10-great-grandchildren.
