Civil War Union Army Officer. He was commissioned as Captain and commander of Company C, 88th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on September 13, 1861. Almost a year later he was killed in action at the August 30, 1862 Second Battle of Bull Run at Mansassas, Virginia. His body was never recovered. Six days after his death his wife, Mary, gave birth to their fifth and last child.

Mary never re-married, and died forty five years after her husband gave his life in defense of the Nation.
