The memorial for Atton Pemberton was placed by James M. (madison) Reynolds, his step-son and youngest son of Eugenia Elizabeth Heyser Reynolds (Pemberton). She married Atton after the death of Joseph Reynolds in 1809. A similar memorial for her may have been lost during the road widening.

Sacred / to the memory of / Atton Pemberton / who was born in England, emigrated to this country / in his youth and sustained throughout life the merited / reputation of a just man characterized in all his / relations to his feollowmen by his stern unwavering / honesty. He impersonated the principle that / "An honest man's the noblest work of God." / Died 17th April 1811. / Aged 65 / This monument is erected to his memory by / Ja's M. Reynolds as a memorial of his friendship / and the virtues of the dead.
