He was the biological son of Susanna Nance and Richard Harrison. HIs father died when he was only 2 and upon his mother's remarriage to Newitt Battles, he and his siblings took the BATTLES last name.

My gr,gr,gr grandfather.

Son of Newit Battles and Susannah Nance

Husband of Sarah Green

Father of William A, Frances, Lille Belle, Celia and Lydia H.

Double marker with his wife, Sarah E Green- Battles

Sarah died sometime between 1901-1909.

In the 1910 Census, Madison is married of a lady named Isabel. Both Madison and Isabel died between 1920-1930. After research, I have found that Sarah is referred to in a marriage document for their daughter Lillie Belle as SARAH ISABELLE GREEN. Thus making me think that Sarah and Isabelle are the same person.
