Their honeymoon was spent en route to Washington Territory, arriving in Sprague, Lincoln County, WA on 15 July 1883. They had a homestead on Coal Creek southwest of Harrington, WA for several years, where their three children were born.
In 1894 he formed a partnership with M. F. Adams in a mercantile store.

He was a councilman for Harrington in 1904; mayor for several terms from 1905 on; member of the old Bank of Harrington; and a farmer.
In 1913 they moved to Davenport, Lincoln County, WA where the county court house was locate. He held the county offices of assessor, auditor and treasurer.
Mattie passed away in 1915 and he never remarried. About 1931 he moved to Bellingham, Whatcom County, WA.
He died on Easter Sunday in a nursing home in Bellevue, WA.

His daughter Imogene brought his ashes to the Harrington Sexton Aug., 1941 and they were to be buried with his wife.
