Grandpa Barrett was a miner by trade. Died in a mine cave in at the Hartwell Bottoms Coal Mine. A 2,000 pound piece of slate broke away and fell on him, killing him instantly. Before it hit him, he managed to push other men out of the way saving several lives while giving his own.
