Charles married Lola "Irene" Potillo Hillis on Nov 21, 1942. They had two sons: Lindell Jerome and Gregory Allen. Charles was the son of Walter Charles Hillis and Evie Marie Strange Hillis. He died at age 69 of a coronary attack. After working at a defense plant in St Louis during WW2, he moved back to Butler Country and worked as a brick layer.
