Diamond M. Smith, 87, of Mt. Vernon died 7:25 a.m. Aug. 11, 1997, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.
He was a retired auto mechanic at Slayton Chevrolet in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Mr. Smith was born March 28, 1910, in Mt. Vernon, a son of Robert and Verna (Merritt) Smith. Aug. 30, 1934 in Mt. Vernon, he married Doris C. Wade, who survives.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hughey Funeral Home with Mr. Mike Sheets officiating. Burial will be in Williams Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hughey Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Doris C. Smith of Mt. Vernon; two sons, David Smith of Mt. Vernon and Daniel Smith of Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Yvonne Warner and husband, Donald of Chattanooga, Tenn., Patricia Wilson and husband Art of Mt. Vernon and Sue Stewart and husband Dwight of Mt. Vernon; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Ralph Smith and wife Ruth Ella of Opdyke, Floyd Smith and wife Dorothy of Sebring, Fla., Dick Smith and wife Betty of Mt. Vernon and Roy E. Smith and wife Bernice of Okeechobee, Fla.; one sister Roberta Bumpus and husband Delbert of Vero Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four grandchildren.
