He was later adopted by a Kirkland and then married Abigail Luviney Tedder Kirkland (1878-1954) of Clay County, Florida on December 14, 1893. They had six children: Joseph Nelson Kirkland, James Nelton Kirkland, Abner Archibald Forbes Kirkland, Joseph Edward Kirkland, Nellie Virgina Kirkland Steward Moore, and my mother, Susie Bell Kirkland Garrett (1908-1994).
A turpentine worker most of his life "Grandpa Tom," was a very small man, about five feet tall; but, he was a big man to his family who loved him very much.
