KATY, Texas — Lisa Broussard Avila, 42, died at 4:50 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2004, in St. Joseph Hospital in Houston.

Born on March 19, 1962, she was a native of Jennings and a resident of Katy. She had lived in Ridgecrest, Calif., and in Katy since 1992. She married Daniel Avila in 1990 in Hisperia, Calif. She served in the Navy for four years and was an aviation mechanic specialist. She coached with the American Girls Softball Association for two years and Katy American Little League Baseball for three years. Her occupation was in construction and remodeling in the home building industry for more than 12 years in the Houston area. Growing up, she loved to be with her dad, working cattle and working on the farm.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel James Avila; and two sons, Daniel Thomas Avila and Michael Anthony Avila, all of Katy; parents, Tom and Terry Broussard of Jennings; three sisters, Kathy (Darryl) Bertrand and Julie (Robbie) Gaspard, all of Lake Arthur, and Kim (Tom) Precht of Jennings; nieces and nephews, Keri, Robin and Scott Bertrand, all of Lake Arthur, and Erin, Matthew, Carrie and Jessica Precht of Jennings; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Alice Avila of Katy and nieces and nephews Alma, Christian and John Avila; cousins, Delia Ancira of Katy and Rebecca, Elizabeth and Joey Ancira; and a number of friends who supported her and her family in the last eight years of her illness, Kimberly Lambert, Pam and Greg Platt, Julie and Dan Quimby, Lori and Clark Dunlap, Vanessa and Doug Merschat, Carolyn Sonleitner, Buck and Donna Presley, Louis and Karen Rodriguez, Ellen Kurio, Roberta Sanford, Joann Ligon and Marci and Mike Ruderman.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 10, from Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Jennings. Visitation is 11 a.m.-10 p.m. today, May 9, with a rosary at 9 p.m., and from 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Istre, Darryl Bertrand, Tom Precht, Robbie Gaspard, Dan Quimby, Greg Platt, Doug Merchat and Scott Bertrand. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Avila and Vincent Gore.
