LUDLOW Joseph S. Szarkowski, 84, of Lyons Street, died Wednesday in a Wilbraham nursing home. He was the founder, owner and operator of the former Terra Mouts Construction Co., Inc. born in Amherst, he lived here for many years and was a graduate of Hopkins Academy. He was a Navy chief motor machinist's mate in World War II. He was a communicant of Christ the King church and a member of Local 98 of the Operating Engineers Union. He leaves his wife, the former Nellie M. Lackowskas; two brothers, Alfred of North Hadley and Ralph of Hadley; and two sisters, Sabina Kulon of Easthampton and Christine Anasowicz of Northhampton. The funeral will be Friday morning at Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home and the church, with burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
