Daughter of Joseph Thomas (Tom) Kirkland and Abigail Luviney Tedder. She lived most of life in Duval County, married to Arthur Lindsey Garrett (1901-1998.) They had four children: Walter Lindsey Garrett (1925-1990,) Mildred Estelle Garrett Kelly, Beverly Louviney Garrett Moore, and yours truly.

Born in the backwoods of Florida, she was a real Florida cracker who loved to tell stories of her backwoods days; but, she was a forward looking woman too who wore pants back when they were still considered shocking and in her last days appreciated modern technology.

She loved flowers and all animals, especially cats.

There is a tombstone at Macedonia Cemetery with Susie Garrett's name on it; but, she is not actually buried there. Her cremated remains were mixed with those of her husband of 74 years and scattered about the cemetery and church grounds and down by the St. Mary's River on their 75th Wedding anniversy.

Both wanted to be cremated. She wanted to be outdoors and he wanted to be back in his hometown of Macclenny. So that seemed the best way of doing it.
