Her surname was spelled "BRISTOR" on the marriage record to Lemuel Long, but was actually BREWSTER. She was a descendant of (Rev.) William Brewster of the Mayflower.

When Martha Brewster was born about 6 June 1731, in Lebanon, New London, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America, her father, Peter Brewster, was 25 and her mother, Mary Lee, was 17. She married Lemuel Long on 11 April 1755, in Coventry, Windham, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 3 daughters. She died in 1818, at the age of 87, and was buried in Silver Street Cemetery, Coventry, Tolland, Connecticut, United States.
