Rockford Morning Star, Wednesday, February 23, 1916
Hugh Andrew, native of the Scotch settlement at Argyle and resident of this section during all his seventy years of life, died yesterday morning at 8:30 o;clock at his home, 310 South First street, after a period of general decline which had its inception in an attack of grip.
Mr. Andrew was born at Argyle Dec. 15, 1845, and resided there until four years ago, when he came to Rockford. His marriage to Miss Margaret Picken took place in 1871. Nine children were born to this union, all of whom, with the widow, survive. They are Mrs. Neil McKay of Minnesota; Mrs. Edward Greenlee of Poplar Grove; Matthew Andrew and Mrs. Robinson McCorvie of Argyle; the Misses Eva, Elizabeth and Hazel Andrew and James P. Andrew and Hugh Andrew Jr. of this city. Mrs. William Reid, Mrs. Jeanette Kelly and Thomas Andrew of Argyle; Mrs. Thomas Greenlee of Caledonia, and Mrs. John A. Picken of Rockford are brothers and sisters.
Deceased was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian church and was a man of clean character and strict integrity who was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at the home Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock, Rev. R. C. Cully officiating, assisted by the Rev. M. L. Pierson, and interment will be made in the Scotch cemetery at Argyle.
