Entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 5, 2010, Janice Carroll Sports Heiterer, wife of Richard Damien Heiterer.
Janice was born in Jasper, Fl, a daughter of Charles Phillip and Hazel Glover Sports on Sunday, October 10, 1937. She attended Charleston High School.
After the death of Janice's father, financial difficulty forced her mother to make the difficult decision to send Janice and four of her siblings to live in the Charleston Orphan House in the summer of 1943. She was able to come back home in April of 1949 to resume life with her mother. While those were tough years, Janice later cherished the memories of living there.
From 1972 to 1983, Janice was a volunteer at Nativity Catholic School on James Island. She was also an avid animal lover and generous donor to many animal charities.
Janice was predeceased by a sister, Sarah Davis Munzenmeier and a brother, Paul G. Sports. Surviving is her husband, two children, Tracey M. Heiterer and Richard L. Heiterer; four grandchildren, Danielle Pirok, Tiffany Hensley, Andrew Hensley and Daniel Heiterer; three sisters, Dorothy S. Butler, Virginia S. Easterling and Linda S. Lukow, 2 brothers, Palmer S. Davis and Charles P. Sports.
The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Richard D. Heiterer are invited to attend her funeral service at 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 10, 2010 at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy.
