Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Union Church of Christ for Lavada Bittner, 73, who died Saturday morning at the Eldora Memorial Hospital.
Leonard Wilfong, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiated. Mrs. Errol Johnson was the organist and Mrs. Leonard Wilfong the soloist. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, Walt Higgason, Orville Higgason, Max Higgason, Albert Rowley, Joe Bittner and Dale Bittner.
Burial was in the Shepherd Cemetery. The Biersborn Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Lavada Hammer Bittner, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Hammer, was born in Union, July 10, 1890. She was a life long resident of the Union area.
On July 11, 1910 she was united in marriage to Oliver Bittner at Union. She was a member of the Union Church of Christ.
She is survived by 12 children, Oliver and Mrs. Harriet Baker, Eldora; Eugene, Albion; Kenneth, Mrs. Lillian Schoberg and Mrs. Alma Priske, Union; Leland, Liscomb; Neil, Steamboat Rock; Mrs. Irma Fouts, San Francisco Calif.; Mrs. Marcla Jay, Marshalltown, Mrs. Avonelle Pippen, Woodburn; and Julia Bittner, Stanwood.
Also surviving are two brothers, Elmer Hammer, Santa Ana Calif., and Verlin Hammer, Marshalltown; a twin sister, Mrs. LaVera Higgason, Eldora, and four other sisters, Mrs. Eva Newton, Portage, Wis., and Mrs. Beth Teskie, Mrs. Louella Peterson and Mrs. Hattie Bittner, Des Moines; 31 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
