US Congressman. He graduated from Yale College in 1819, was admitted to the bar in 1823 and commenced the practice of law in Lyons, Wayne County, New York. He was elected district attorney of Wayne County in 1829 and served until 1833, when he relocated to Rochester, New York. In 1835, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress, serving until 1837.
