One of the oldest residents of Stanley, Mrs. Lizzie Eliza Cave, 86, passed away at her home on Christmas Day at four o'clock in the afternoon after an illness of only a day. Mrs. Cave had been in her usual health until she was stricken on Christmas Eve. Born on January 15, 1868, at Stanley, Mrs. Cave was a daughter of the late Franklin Short and Susan Burns Short. Since girlhood she had been a member of the Stanley Baptist Church and had the distinction of being its oldest member. In 1888 she was united in marriage with Charles I. Cave, who preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1917. Surviving are three children: Mrs. Sudie Lowery, of Stanley, Mrs. Edward (Neva) Thompson, of New York City, and Rufus Cave, of Stanley. A daughter, Mrs. Ernest (Laura) Good is deceased. Mrs. Cave also leaves a brother, Charles F. Short, of Stanley. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday from the Stanley Baptist Church with the Rev. James Fox and Rev. J.E. Tucker in charge. Burial was in the family cemetery.
