Watauga Democrat Obituary:
Mrs. Ruby Atkins Yates, 77, of 22 Stelle Road, Chesterfield, N.J., a native and former resident of Banner Elk, the Matney community, died Saturday morning, Feb. 12, at her daughter's residence in Chesterfield, N.J.
She was born Dec. 13, 1922, in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Samuel and Nannie Faye Shell Atkins. She was a member of North Point Baptist Church in Baltimore, Md.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Linda Eileen Albano and husband, Richard; one grandson, Justin Gregory Albano, all of Chesterfield, N.J.; one step-son, Adrian Steve Yates and wife, Glinda, of Banner Elk and one brother, Robert Earl Atkins and wife, Sarah, of Baltimore, Md. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian Haynes Yates; one step-daughter, Eva Diane Yates; her father and mother, Samuel and Nannie Faye Shell Atkins and one brother, Russell Dean Atkins.
Services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state from 9-10 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Frank Blevins. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Service.
