GASTONIA - George Holland Flowers, 85, of 112 Bowden Lane, died May 30, 2010.
He was born in Gaston County, the son of the late Laban Levi and Sarah Ellen Branch Flowers.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Clara Margaret Beaty Flowers, and his wife of four years, Elizabeth Moose Flowers; one daughter, Linda Ann Flowers; one son, George Michael Flowers; daughter-in-law, Karen Flowers; four sisters, Gertie Eastwood, Lucy Samuels, Lena Flowers and Martha Cherry.
He was a retired textile supervisor and a U.S. Navy World War II veteran who served aboard the USS Procyon in both theaters of World War II. He was a charter member of South Point Life Saving Crew, a member of the Community Volunteer Fire Department, a member of Goshen Free Will Baptist Church and a member of the Gaston County World War II Last Man Club. He was an avid, talented woodcraftsman.
He is survived by one daughter, Lore Flowers and fiancé Tom Wetzel of Gastonia; two sons, Donnie Flowers of Spencer Mountain and Tommy Flow-ers and wife Teri of Spencer Mountain; one sister, Estelle Poteat of Lowell; seven grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Hospice of Gaston County.
The funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday at Goshen Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. William Calvert officiating. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park with graveside services performed by the Gaston County World War II Last Man Club.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home of Tommy and Teri Flowers, 138 Hall Road, Spencer Mountain.
