Raymond Paul Azzarelli, 64, of Kankakee, died Tuesday (June 1, 2010) at Bourbonnais Terrace. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, where he was a member.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church or to Bourbonnais Terrace.
Mr. Azzarelli was employed by Azzarelli Construction Co. for many years. He was born Dec. 2, 1946, the son of Sam and Jean LaGesse Azzarelli. As a child he played baseball with the Lions Little League and basketball at Limestone Grade School and Bishop McNamara High School. He was a 1965 graduate of Bishop McNamara High School and attended Central Florida Junior College and Northern Michigan Junior College. He enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard May 17, 1967, and served part of his duty during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Teamsters Local 705. He loved watching the White Sox and Blackhawks and listening to music.
Surviving are his parents of Kankakee; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Vicki Azzarelli of Land O'Lakes, Fla., James and Mary Azzarelli of Odessa, Fla., Greg and Julie Azzarelli of Kankakee; three sisters and brothers-inlaw, Paula and Phil Czernik, Mary and George McGrath and Jeanne and Jeff James, all of Kankakee; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; five uncles, John, Pete, Bart and Joseph Azzarelli and Frank Raspolich; and one aunt, Josephine Azzarelli.
