Nancy Gaynell Farthing Bateman, 78 of Willow Briar Lane died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Danville Regional Medical Center after being in declining health for the past three months.

Mrs. Bateman was born on August 17, 1931 in Danville, VA the daughter of the late Lawrence Auston Farthing and the late Lottie Mae Brown Farthing.

She spent her life in the Brosville Community and was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church.

On March 25, 1950 she married the late Bobby Bateman.

Mrs. Bateman is survived by one son Robbie Bateman and his wife Cathy of Brosville; four daughters, Sandra Gale Bateman, Kaye Bateman Stout, Tina B. Hyler and her husband Rick all of Brosville, and Connie B. Maitland and her husband Rod of Danville; four grandchildren, Angie M. Barrett and her husband Thomas, Adam Maitland, Bobby Stout, and Darby Shaw Bateman; and one sister Vera Bradner.

Mrs. Bateman was predeceased by two brothers, Elzie Auston Farthing and Walter Madison Farting; three sisters, Margie Reid, Bernice Clark, and Mollie Gay; and one grandson Michael Anthony Maitland.

A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Bateman Family Cemetery on Oak Hill Road with the Reverend Robert Hardy IV officiating.

The family will receive friends On Friday, April 30, 2010 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and other times at the residence, 500 Willow Briar Lane.
