Joe Henry Gandy, 82, of Waldport, Ore., died of lung cancer on April 20, 2010 at his home.
He was born Oct. 1, 1927 to John James and Lodie (Wimberly)Gandy in Washington, Okla. He married Billie Shore in Vancouver, Wash. on Aug. 11, 1950. They were married for 59 years. He served in the Army during World War II as a heavy equipment mechanic and operator while stationed in Japan and the Philippines.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joey Carrier.He is survived by his wife, Billie Gandy of Waldport; daughters, Pam (Glen) Carrier of Florence, Ore. and Jo Ann Gandy of Salem, Ore.; son, Robert (Ardie) Gandy of Newport, Ore.; sisters, Ruth Allen of Yreka, Calif. and Pearline Perkins of Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, at 1183 SE Shady Cove Lane in Waldport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research.
