Walson married his sweetheart Ada Hannah McDonald in Kansas.He was 22 years old when the family, along with the McDonalds' traveled West to Oregon in a wagon train.
Traveling to Oregon, Walson peddled silver polish at small settlements along the way, the polish consisted of talic powder, and dry powdered cement.

we received your card announcing the arrival of your young daughter, but we have been so busy we have neglected to write. I have my hay all in and grain stocked. I expect to thrash 80 or 90 bushels mostly oats, I have lots of hay and corn, or rather corn foder, don't think I will have much corn, hope you folks are all well now and can come up to see us this fall, we went to town to church to day the roads are good but a little rough.Well I must stop, write soon, by by for this time, Walson.
