MONTPELIER - Alvin Farrel Andersen, 79, passed away at Bear Lake Memorial Nursing Home on Thursday, July 16, 2009. Alvin was born February 8, 1930, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Amanuel and Annie Larsen Andersen. Alvin graduated from Blackfoot High. He enlisted in the Navy and was in the Korean War. He married LeOra McLain on January 14, 1955, in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Upon returning from the navy he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad and worked there until he retired. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and rock collecting to make jewelry.
He is survived by his wife, two children, Robert (Donna) Andersen of Montpelier, Idaho, and Bonnie (Mike) Stirling of Denham Springs, La.; four grandchildren, Jonna (Kyle) Flahaut of Pocatello, Idaho, Nathan (Kristina) Andersen of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Randi Andersen of Logan, Utah, Ethan Sterling of Denham Springs, La., and two great-grandchildren, Porter and Kaden Andersen; one sister, Myrtle (Ernie) Lombard of Mountain Home, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leland and Glen, and six sisters, Nellie Andersen, May Fenn, Edith Kirby, Ethel Wood, Fern Palmer and Mildred Jemmett.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 21, in the Montpelier 4th Ward at 1 p.m. Friends may visit with the family on Monday evening from 6 to 7:30 at Matthews Mortuary in Montpelier, and at the Montpelier 4th Ward from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery.
