Mrs. Lucinda Merrell, consort of Elder Elijah Merrell departed this life March 1st, 1887 in the fifty-seventh year of her age. She was born in Lincoln county Tennessee Aug. 26th, 1830: was married to Elder E. Merrell, March 14th, 1847: removed to Monroe county, Mississippi, the following autumn, lived there two years, then removed to Manet-cove in Hot Springs County, Arkansas: after residing there five years, came to the vicinity of County-line church, in Howard county, and in the spring of 1855, to Hempstead county, where they have since resided in harmonious concord, rearing a happy, prosperous and honored family, the light and joy of the society in which they mingled. Sister Merrell was prostrated with apoplexy on the morning of March 1st at 9 o'clock, lived 'till 25 minutes past 10 P.M. of same day (her) pent-up soul was ushered (into) glorious light of immortality (____), "It is enough" sorrow and (pain) are all o'er. Heaven is (gained), and whithin its shining (portals), she stands arrayed as an (immaculate), ready (to) receive you into that happy (reunion), where parting shall be (no) more. "O, blessed day, O, glorious hope."
Feign would we pour the (balm) of consolation unto the heart-stricken bosom of her (bereaved) children, who mourn, (so) poingantly, the loss of their (dearest) friend. To them would we say--may the prayers and (tears) of that sainted mother be (an) incense offering, diffusing its (sweetness) into your saddened hearts, and ever gently wooing you to the "Rock of Ages, " where the love and smiles of your mother will again light up your souls with joy, and you will remain in her presence forever.
