Augustus C Boswell was enlisted by Col. John H. Forney on June 4, 1861, at Alexandria, Alabama, for the war. Sgt. Boswell survived a number of battles, including Dranesville, Williamsburg, Seven Pines, Gaine's Mill, Harpers Ferry. He was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital No. 2, Richmond, Virginia, for debility on April 11 and returned to duty April 14, 1862. He was received a gunshot wound in action before Richmond, Virginia, on June 30, 1862. He was wounded slightly at Salem Church on May 3, 1863, admitted to Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, on May 8, and was given a furlough on August 2, 1863. He was wounded again, and was discharged on January 2, 1864. On January 6, he was admitted to General Hospital, Howard's Grove, Richmond, Virginia, with variola dist, was transferred February 20, and returned to duty on March 6, 1864.
