Mary Austin had an important influence on Texas history.
Her contribution was in the letter written to son, Stephen, two days before the death of her husband begging Stephen to carry out the dying wish of his father.
Stephen was asked to follow through with the empresario grants for land settlement in Texas.
This lead to the founding, recognizing and colonizing of Texas.
