At the time of his death he was married to Edith Cosgrave, who was listed as both the informant and his wife on his death certificate. Her maiden name appears to have been Zielinski, although her family sometimes used the name Zill. He had previously been married to Dorthea Brokaw who died 10 May 1904 in Cambridge, Ohio. He and Dorthea had four children together.

It appears that he worked as a cook and chef in restaurants as well as baker in bake shops.

In addition to the children linked below, he was also the father of Marie G Cosgrave Wilt (1903-1991).

"COSGRAVE William Clarence, age 64 years, of 448 Pine st,, passed away Wednesday a. m. He is survived by his wife, Edith; three daughters, Mrs. W. E. Walker, Mrs. E. Wilt of Akron, and Mrs. Harold Russell of Jamestown, N. Y.; one son, Charles W. of Cleveland; 16 grandchildren, two sisters. Funeral services Saturday, 3 p. m., at the residence, Rev, Mr. Longaker officiating. Burial Mt. Peace"
