Donald Joe Barrett, 73, of West Columbia passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 6, 2011. He was born May 15, 1938 to Hugh Roland and Myrtle Lilly (Bennett) Barrett in Sherman, Texas. He was a retired operator from the Houston Port Authority, graduated from Smiley High school in 1957, member of the Galena Park Masonic Lodge #1290 and the I.L.A. Local #1530 for 37 years. Donald served in the United States Marine Corp between the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia with Pastors Kenneth Lott a hospice chaplain, Kenneth Myrick of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, his nephew, Matt Barrett, and cousin, Mike Johnson.

Burial will be at McAdams Cemetery in Bedias, Texas at 3:00pm. Family will receive friends and family at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, August 9, 2011. Serving as pallbearers will be Brian, Jarrod, and Nathan Aiken, Michael, Mason Spake and Paul Spake, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be T.W. Bryer, Robert Taylor, Charles Peck, Blake and Clay Barrett.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Myrtle Barrett; brother, Gerald Elmer Barrett, and sister, Theda R. Henry.

Don was previously married for 23 years and had 6 children, Darla Sue Barrett whom precedes him in death, Michael Shane Barrett, Robert Ray Barrett, Theda Gay Aiken and husband, Dave; Dana Renee' Morrow and husband James; along with Roy Hubert Barrett and wife, Kelly.

He is currently married to Betty S. Jenkins Barrett for the past 28 years and has 2 step-sons, William Michael Spake whom precedes him in death, and Paul Wayne Spake, Sr. and wife, Carol; he has 16 grandchildren, Courtney and husband, Drew, Taylor, Bobby, Jr., Kaitlan, Brooklynn Nicole, Jarrod and wife, Pankita, Brian and wife, Brittany, Nathan, RyAnn, Brooklynn Renee', Blake, Clay, Paul and wife, Lindsay, Michael, Mason and Betty J. ; Don also has 8 great-grandchildren, Jake, Lauren, Brie, Chrissa, Colton, Camden, Kayla and Camryn; 7 nephews, Matt, Mark, Scott, Alan, Wes, John and Jason; 6 nieces, Jackie, Terri, Peggy, Barbara, Denise and Debbie; along with brother, Hugh Redding Barrett and sister, Nancy O. Foulds.

Memorials may be made in his name to Helping Hands and Hearts Hospice, 412 Plantation Drive, Lake Jackson, Texas 77566.
