J. Elma Ross Young, 94, of RR 3, Rome, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at Towanda Memorial Hospital. Elma was born Feb 1, 1913 in Warren Center, one of seven children to Stephen Emerson and Jenny Maude (Deull) Pendleton. She attended Warren Center and was a graduate of Towanda High School. Elma was a member of North Rome Weslyan Church, a former member of Order of Easter Star, and for many years served as tax collector in Rome. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and cross-stitching and was an excellant coook. Elma is survived by; her daughters and son-in-law, Mary and Roe Russell of Rome and Shirley Rockwell of Wysox; her sons and daughters-in-law Robert and Nancy Ross of Duncannon, Pa. and Dr. Gary and Louise Ross of Montross, Va.; her stepson, John, and his wife, Irene Young of Potterville, Pa.; stepdaughter Mary Jane Young of Athens; her sisters-in-law, Jeanette Pendleton of Warren Center and Genevieve Pendleton of Athens; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Elma was predeceased by; her husbands, Edward Ross in 1944 and Duane Young in 1992; a son-in-law, Lewis Rockwell; grandson Richard Russell; infant son Gayl Ross; brothers Franklin, Arthur and Stephen Pendleton; and sisters Gladys BOwen, Bernice Abell, and Irene Corbin. A time of remembering the special gift Elma was to all of us will be held Monday, July 2, 2007 at 2 PM at Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A period of visitation and sharing memories will be held from 1 PM until the time of the service at the funeral chapel. Those who wish to do so may kindly consider a memorial contribution to North Rome Weslyan Church in memory of Elma.
