James Edwin Loder, 49, formerly a prominent Lincoln educator and businessman, died Thursday at his home in Austin, Tex.
Mr. Loder left the field of education in 1945 when he resigned as principal of Northeast High School, a post he had held since the opening of the school in 1941. In 1945, he associated with Robert Venner to open the first state office in Lincoln of the Farmers Insurance Group.
One year later, Mr. Loder moved to Kansas City, Mo., and shortly thereafter to Austin where he was a branch manager for Farmers Insurance.
Born in Waverly in 1905, Mr. Loder attended Waverly High School, Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska, obtaining a doctors degree at Nebraska.
Taught in Oakland
Mr. Loder's teaching career began at Oakland High School in 1926. He was an instructor in Bethany and Whittier junior high schools in Lincoln from 1927 to 1929 when he transferred to Scottsbluff where he was organizer and dean of the junior college there.
Returning to Lincoln, Mr. Loder was principal of Havelock High School from 1932 to 1941.
Mr. Loder had written widely on various educational topics and problems. He was active in civic and educational circles, having been a director and past president of Rotary and a member of the Lions Club, enter Juvenile delinquency Club, Inter Suburban Club, Association of Superintendents and Principals of Nebraska, Nebraska Schoolmasters Club, National Education Association division of school principals, Nebraska State Teachers Association, American Association of School Administrators and the Lincoln Teachers Association.
Final funeral arrangements are pending. Services will be held at Waverly and burial will be at Waverly.
Mr. Loder is survived by his wife, Francis; one daughter, Francis Kay; one son, James; and three brothers.
