Though some genealogies make the claim that Cyrus Saunders (senior) died in Fleming County, Kentucky, in 1822, the December 31, 1822 issue of the Torch Light and Public Advertiser reveals the following: "Died at Williams-Port on the morning of 28th ult., Cyrus Saunders at an advanced age." It is correct, however, that several of Cyrus' family members moved to Fleming County, as I have seen reference to it in period documents reviewed during my research.

ON application, by petition in writing, of CYRUS SAUNDERS, of Washington county and state of Maryland, to me the subscriber one of the Justices of the Orphans' Court for the county and state aforesaid, for the benefit of the act of assembly, entitled, "an act for the relief of sundry insolvent debtors", passed at November session eighteen hundred and five and the several supplements thereto, a schedule of his property, and a list of his creditors, so far as he can ascertain them on oath being annexed to his said petition; and being satisfied that the said petitioner hath resided in the state of Maryland for two years next preceding the date of his said petition; and being also satisfied by the certificate of the Sheriff of Washington county, that the said SYRUS SAUNDERS is now confined in the public jail of said county for debt, and for no other cause; and the said petitioner having taken the oath prescribed by law, and entered into bond, with security, for his appearance in Washington county Court on the fourth Monday of March next, to answer such allegations as his creditors may propose to him –
I do therefore order and adjudge, That the said CYRUS SAUNDERS be discharged from the custody of the Sheriff of said county, and that the said fourth Monday of March next, be, and hereby is, appointed for the said petitioner to deliver up his property, and to have a trustee appointed for the benefit of his creditors; & that the said petitioner by causing a copy of this order to be inserted in one of the Hagerstown newspapers, for three months successively, before the said fourth Monday of March next, give notice to his creditors to be, and appear, at the day and place aforesaid, to recommend a trustee for their benefit, and to shew cause, if any they have, why the said CYRUS SAUNDERS should not have the benefit of the act of Assembly and supplements aforesaid as proved. 5/17/1822 - Book FF page 739 - Constables Bond - Cyrus Saunders, James Moore and Cyrus R. Saunders bound to the state for $800. Cyrus Saunders is appointed Constable for Williamsport from first Monday May 1822 to first Monday May of 1823.
8/11/1822 - death of son, Cyrus. "DIED, on Sunday evening last, at the house of Mr. George Lowe, in this county, after a short illness, in the 26th year of his age, Mr. Cyrus Saunders, Jr., Printer, son of Mr. Cyrus Saunders, Sen. Of WilliamsPort. The deceased was a worthy young man, and his loss will be sensibly felt by his numerous friends, & particularly by his aged parents to whose declining years he was at once a prop and a solace."
Though some genealogies make the claim that Cyrus Saunders (senior) died in Fleming County, Kentucky, in 1822, the December 31, 1822 issue of the Torch Light and Public Advertiser reveals the following: "Died at Williams-Port on the morning of 28th ult., Cyrus Saunders at an advanced age." It is correct, however, that several of Cyrus' family members moved to Fleming County, as I have seen reference to it in period documents reviewed during my research.

1804 – Listed as "Capt. Cyrus Sanders". Ran, as a Democrat (actually, the "Democratic-Republican Party"), for the Virginia 1804 House of Delegates, Jefferson County. Voting closed on April 13, 1804. With 238 votes, he placed third behind Abraham Morgan (Federalist, 254 votes), and George Tate (Federalist, 283 votes), and ahead of James Hite (Democrat, 194 votes).
